Uriel

You're Such an Inspiration for the Ways
name: DELACROIX, Riley
age: 26
orientation: Straight
gender: Male
species: Angel (given human form)
That I Will Never Ever Choose to Be
build: Slender
height: 5'11"
weight: 156 lbs
eye color: Blue
hair color: Dark brown
appearance: God saw fit to bestow upon Riley an average height and weight. However, those two features are about the only things that are common about him. His messy dark hair is in stark contrast with his blue eyes and pale skin, and he’s got above-average looks. Although his entire wardrobe seems, at times, to consist of starched white button-down shirts, black pants, and his black pea coat, he does occasionally wear the standard t-shirt and jeans. He just prefers not to; do you humans have any idea how uncomfortable denim really is? He’d much rather wear the relatively-soft black trousers to that rough, scratchy material that today’s youth seems to adore.

Oh So Many Ways for Me to Show You
personality: Riley, AKA Uriel, AKA the Flame of God, is the angel of Repentance. For the most part, he’s a good man, albeit rather antisocial, preferring instead to spend his time sharpening his extensive sword collection. He just has the nasty habit of holding serious grudges. Because he had his name erased from all Christian texts, he is all-but forgotten to humanity, and he’s resentful of that fact. However, he doesn’t take his frustration out on all of humanity; he only makes sure that the unrepentant spend the rest of eternity in Hell. He is God’s judge, jury, and executioner, and is sometimes viewed as being more pitiless than any demon.
strengths:
-He's very much in God's favor, and gets the Big Guy's support whenever he needs it.
-Strength and speed; Archangels aren't human, and are stronger and faster than them by far.
-Fighting; he, like all archangels, is very skilled in all aspects of battle.
-Mildly Clairvoyant. He can see who is an angel or a demon and who is not; who will be unrepentant and who will be pure; etc, etc. It's a benefit of his job as a judge.
-Being the Flame of God, his element is fire, and he can control flames.
weaknesses:
-His Clairvoyancy gives him frequent headaches.
-His human form is confusing to him. He doesn't understand the concepts of hunger or exhaustion.
-He's experiencing the temptations of the flesh for the first time, and as such, is easily swayed by them.
-Having put quite a few of the now-free demons in Hell, he's got a lot of people out for his head.
-He can't control his emotions as well as humans or the other archangels.
fun facts: He's one of the very few that are allowed to enter the presence of God.
history: From the beginning, God had trusted Uriel to do what needed to be done. Uriel had helped to bury the first man, Adam, and his son, Abel, in Paradise. He had warned Noah that the Great Flood was at hand. He had testified before God on behalf of humankind, asking for divine intervention during the reign of the Fallen and the Nephilim, and had imprisoned the tyrants in hell until the Day of Judgment. He had checked the doors of Egypt for lamb’s blood, and had killed the first born males of the households that had not warded him off. He had carried John the Baptist and his mother into Egypt to protect them from the Massacre of the Innocents.
When, in 745, Pope St. Zachary had declared that all angels’ names (apart from Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael) be removed from the list of those eligible for veneration in the Catholic Church, Uriel faded into obscurity. However, he still reigned as God’s judge, jury, and executioner. He kept up his job, and continued to cart sinners and demons alike to Hell. At least, until some of them started to break free from their prison. Uriel was the first that God made flesh and sent to earth to counter the onslaught of Lucifer’s servants.
Uriel was given the body of Riley Delacroix, a young detective living in New York City. Riley was born to an extremely pious family living in Brooklyn. He followed in his father’s footsteps, joining the police force after getting a degree in Police Science. Eighteen months later, he became a detective. He excelled at and loved his job, even though some of the more violent cases took a heavy toll on all involved. After his parents were brutally murdered, he heard the voice of God telling him that they were killed by a demon, and asking him if he would like the chance to fight back. Naturally, he said yes. However, when Uriel inhabited his body, hardly any trace of Riley’s consciousness remained; only his memories.

sample: Uriel drew his knees up to his chest as another wave of agony washed over him, leaving him gasping on the floor of the bedroom. All he could do was wait it out. There were bound to be side effects when one suddenly found oneself inhabiting another’s body. He just wasn’t expecting it to be so…intense.
Of course, he’d been informed that it would happen. But that had been days ago, and God hadn’t told him when it would be. One minute, he’d been minding his own business of watching over the gates of Hell, and the next, he’d been thrown into this man’s form. His very human form.
It was surreal. Not a term that an archangel would use lightly, but there it was. His senses hadn’t been dulled in the slightest, and that was something that this man, this Riley Delacroix wasn’t used to. He could see, and hear, and smell, and feel just as strongly as he was able to an hour ago. Oh, he felt more than anything. He could feel like an earthquake the vibrations from the sound waves of the tenants below him; they were arguing again. He could feel the barest breeze from the window against his skin, and it cut through him like a knife. And every small movement sent anguish slicing through his unfamiliar, foreign frame.
No, there was nothing for it. He’d have to wait it out. Hopefully by the time dawn broke in a few short hours, he would have gotten used to this fragile body.
